Eurovision 2026 โ How Bulgaria Won
The 70th Eurovision Song Contest took place at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria on 16 May 2026. Bulgaria won the contest with DARA's Bangaranga, scoring 516 total points (204 from the 35 national juries + 312 from the public televote including the Rest-of-the-World online aggregate). Israel finished second on 343 points, Romania third on 296, Australia fourth on 287 and Italy fifth on 281. The 173-point gap between Bulgaria and Israel is the largest absolute winning margin in Eurovision history, surpassing Alexander Rybak's Fairytale for Norway at Moscow 2009 (169 points).
First dual jury+televote winner since 2017
DARA is the first artist since Salvador Sobral (Portugal, Kyiv 2017) to win both the jury vote and the public televote. From 2018 through 2025, the combined-vote winner always placed second or lower in at least one of the two pools. Bulgaria's win is the country's first Eurovision victory across 16 participations dating back to its debut at Kyiv 2005.
Where the bookmakers got it wrong
UK bookmakers held Finland's Liekinheitin as the 2.00 favourite (50% implied probability) going into Saturday night. Finland finished sixth. Bulgaria was priced 15/1 at Betfred and won outright.
