A Eurovision sweepstake is the easiest way to bet on tonight's Grand Final at an office party, viewing night, or family gathering. Each participant pays £2-5 into the pool, draws a random country from 25, and the participant whose country wins takes the pot. The format requires no betting account, no UK Gambling Commission license (informal social betting between friends is legal in the UK), and turns the Eurovision broadcast into a shared social event.

How To Run The Sweepstake — Step By Step

  1. Write 25 country names on separate paper slips. One country per slip.
  2. Fold each slip and place in a hat / bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Each participant draws one slip blind. No swapping.
  4. Each participant pays the stake into the pool. Cash or Venmo/Revolut transfer.
  5. Watch the broadcast together (BBC One 20:00 BST). Cheer for your assigned country.
  6. Winner announced ~23:25 BST. Pool distributed per agreed structure.

The Probability-Weighted Sweepstake Variant

Elena Vasquez on a more sophisticated structure:

"Standard Eurovision sweepstakes give each country equal stake — but the implied probability of winning varies from Finland's 45.5% to Cyprus's 1% (100x spread). For experienced groups who want fair-value sweepstakes, the probability-weighted variant works: participants pay stakes proportional to the implied win probability. Finland's drawer pays Ā£4.55 (highest stake). Cyprus's drawer pays Ā£0.10 (lowest stake). Total pool size stays similar to standard sweepstake but the expected payout is structurally fair across all positions. Used at serious Eurovision watch parties hosted by industry insiders. UK matched-betting communities and Eurovision-fan ESC groups commonly use this format."
